Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Camper Van
Return to Previous PageIf you, your partner whether human or 4 legged, or family / friends are outdoor enthusiasts and love to travel then sooner or later you probably have considered obtaining a camper van. Obtaining the right Campervan or caravanette to fit the travel needs of your passengers is vital for obtaining the freedom, flexible comfort, and proper sense of adventure that is difficult to replicate within other vehicles. HQ Custom Design was approached by our client that was wanting to build a camper van on the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis. In concept, our client had wanted a van that would be utilized for cross country weekend road trips through upstate New York and their house within the Pocono Mountains, as well as other kinds of adventures. Most importantly, since the van was going to be used on the road for hours at a time, it was vital for the client to have a rear lavatory / bathroom and small kitchenette area to avoid the need of frequent breaks and rest stops to use the restroom and grab food / drinks respectively. About the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 144″ Wheelbase Chassis
From the onset, our client had wanted to use the Mercedes-Benz Sprinter chassis, although they were not keen on the concept of having too large of a chassis size, due to having difficulty finding parking within New York City especially and going under low bridge areas that were prevalent in their hometown, in addition to other metropolitan areas. Therefore a Sprinter 144” wheelbase was chosen as the client made it evident that there was no need of using a larger chassis as driving mobility was seen as more important than comforts.
About the Passenger Cabin Features and Amenities
Not to say that this particular build was lacking in the comfort factor, as it is equipped with 2 forwards facing captain chairs in the passenger cabin, and features re-upholstered seating for the driver and co-pilot to match the rear cabin. Instead of a partition wall, the client had preferred for the van to feature an open concept interior that would allow for easy access to the rear restroom or to use any of the kitchenette amenities. In between the driver and passenger cabin lies a bulkhead TV cabinet that features a 32” HD LED TV and 2 front speakers, which are part of the cabin’s surround sound system as a sub-woofer is located next to the microwave oven. A removable table is able to be placed in between the passenger cabin captain seats that works well for eating a light meal or snack off of, or using as a stand for a laptop or mobile / tablet device. As for entertainment, the van comes with an Apple TV device for mirroring displays and streaming media off of. Of course, an Internet connection is required to use the device as the cabin is equipped with a wireless Internet router, in order to allow passengers to remain connected while on the road or parked remotely.
Rear Lavatory / Bathroom and Kitchenette Area
Within the kitchenette area, as mentioned there is a microwave oven, tangent to it on the opposing counter is a sink faucet, Keurig coffee machine, inner cabinet waste bucket, and a mini refrigerator. As for the rear lavatory, the client wanted to keep it rather basic as there was no need of having a sink within the restroom as this is already outside within the cabin space. The bathroom features a ventilation fan to avoid any bad odors from coming into the main cabin as well as wood laminate door that comes with a locking mechanism.
