Bike Shop for Professional Cycling, Community Outreach, Retail and Charity Events

As of recent, Colavita is aiming to take up a different approach to extend their reach within the professional cycling arena to focus its sponsorship funds back to consumers and Team Colavita members via charitable ride events and offering via programs to inner-city school districts. HQ was turned to design a mobile bike shop in lieu of their enhanced communal outreach program to offer riders a convenient mobile station to tune up or repair their bikes with technicians onsite to assist. Our client understood the inconvenience associated with the need to visit a brick-and-mortar repair shop during a cycling event, and knew that HQ was well known for finding mobile solutions for a range of different industries.

About the Build and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Chassis

For this build, a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter 170” inch wheelbase was used to offer the maximum amount of space for the rear area, and for a small passenger area to sit about 2-3 without including the driver and co-pilot. A rear partition is included to separate the rear workstation and the passenger cabin, as the trunk of the van is usually kept open when the van is in being used onsite as people are hoping on and off it. Oue client had mentioned to that the passenger space was to serve as a break spot for staff members providing them with a place to cool off, make a phone call or eat light meal / snack off of during events.

While the passenger area is kept basic, the rear workstation interior is rather refined with wood laminated wall interior along with overhead and side LED lighting. Of course a toolbox is located within the back of the rear space, in order to allow technicians to safely store their equipment and tools mid transit. For the rear space, rear slot wall panels with aluminum inserts function as an elevated holder for bikes that are being repaired on. Overhead and floor L track s are installed to enable for additional bikes to be repaired at time, in order to remain stationary when being work on. Rubber flooring is installed to provide adequate traction to stationed bikes. A 12V air compressor with separate air tank is equipped to allow for the installation of new tires and re configuring air pressures. Lastly, rear USB / AC outlets are connected to batteries and power inverter system to enable for air compressor and specialized equipment to function, as well as to serve as a station for charging laptops, mobile devices and cell phones.
