conEdison Ford Transit Outreach Van
Return to Previous PageHQ Custom Design had the privilege of working with conEdison branch to develop a custom Ford Transit Outreach van to add to their fleet. ConEd needed a van to service their clientele in response to unexpected outages by providing constant news updates, onsite equipment repairs, enabling customers to charge their devices on board and disturbing dry ice and other materials. In these situations, ConEd’s response teams required a mobile solution to be able serve multiple areas by deploying their manpower and equipment in the most effective and efficient manner. Most of all, ConEd required a mobile command center to be able to communicate and coordinate with onsite repair personnel, local law enforcement and other ConEd crews. HQ and ConEd worked closely with one another to develop a reliable, durable and self-sufficient van capable of operating as both a mobile command center and mobile office.
Blend of a Mobile Office and Mobile Command Center
The Ford Transit’s interior was fully customized and redone to create a full-fledged office area composed of two sets workstations and overhead storage cabinets. Each workstation includes an office chair, computer monitor with multiple ports, storage drawers and USB / AC outlets, all against a full-sized whiteboard. On the opposite side, lies additional storage compartments along with a retractable chair for an added passenger to use. A TV screen is included for monitoring local news alerts, outside camera footage and personnel. In the rear, lies additional storage space where first aid and other emergency medical equipment are stored.
A Number of On-Board Equipment, Workstations and Electronics
Since the ConEd’s Outreach vans operate independently in areas without electricity access, the van needed to be able function off the grid. Therefore, a 8000 Watt Cummins generator along with high capacity backup batteries were incorporated. In addition, the van can be further powered via a separate shore power generator. On the exterior, there are 360-degree cameras, TV antenna, outwards facing TV screens for displaying news updates, special 360-degree lighting capable of illuminating an entire neighborhood block. Furthermore, a retractable awning keeps crew members and customers covered.
