Community Outreach Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Van Mobile Office

Recently, HQ Custom Design had the pleasure of designing and building a custom Mercedes-Benz Sprinter for Municipal Credit Union (MCU) as a communal outreach mobile office van. Usage was orientated towards showcasing and providing information on various financial products and services at different community, pop-up or trade show events. Window awnings were considered an essential to allow MCU staff to distribute brochures, flyers and information packets regarding financial products and services via foldable tables and stands. For the interior, MCU staff wanted a corporate office space that provided a intimate and AC cooled area to speak patrons in private to review presentations or to review documents. Most importantly, MCU noted the importance of a rear bathroom to allow staff to answer nature’s call at a moments notice without the need of frequent stops at rest stops. The Mercedes-Benz Sprinter was chosen, due to its Swiss Army Knife status within the commercial vehicle market, as a van that appeals to unique set of different businesses for its unique set of recreational and business orientated interior customization options.

How MCU and Other Credit Unions Differ From Big Banks.

For those unable to access traditional financial services of commercial banks or even more so fed up with elusive monthly fees, credit unions like MCU serve as an alternative by being able to offer similar or sometimes a broader range of financial products / solutions than regular commercial banks. Credit unions operate as a “not-for-profit” meaning that rather than acting in the best interest for those who have equity within the respective firm, these institutions are financial cooperatives meaning that their participants also serve as de facto owners. Credit unions have a mandate to serve communal interests operating under a ‘small profit’ and often under a tax exempt status, therefore these institutions offer lower fees compared to commercial banks and require lesser account minimums, and higher savings rates and lower borrowing rates in accordance to not being profit driven.

Retrospective on the Build: How Was the Van Used?

As one of the oldest credit unions in NY and the largest credit union within the metro New York area, Municipal Credit Union has about half million members and over $2.5 billion in total assets. While MCU was established for municipal workers, like other credit unions as of recent, the firm has expanded member qualifications to include candidates from the general public. In effort to expand their operations and serve New Yorkers better, MCU hopes to use this Mercedes Sprinter for different road tours and community events, conventions, festivals and other events around New York City as a loaded marketing hub on wheels.

Loaded With Features for Business and Personal Use.

The MCU Sprinter van features a private office with an adjacent TV display featuring an Apple TV and surround sound system to be used for broadcasting presentations, video conferences, and streaming media among other usages. Overhead cabinets provide a safe storage space for media kits, supplies and belongings especially when in transit. Even more so, the MCU Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van features an elegant interior that serves as a full travel space with the capability for long term usage with a microwave oven and refrigerator included for storing and warming light snacks or meals while traveling. Lastly for the interior, a rear lavatory is included with the inclusion of an incinerator toilet system, rather than utilizing a plumbing system within the van to avoid the need of any disposal. On the exterior, the Sprinter van featured retractable window awnings capable of being retracted outwards to allow staff members to setup stand or fold-able tables underneath to showcase media kits and products to passerbys. To add interior space in the passenger cabin, a rear plug door is installed in lieu of the front sliding door entrance.
