Ambassador Mercedes-Benz Sprinter Conversion Van
Return to Previous PageRecently, HQ Custom Design had the pleasure of working with GreatHorse Country Club to build a custom Mercedes-Benz Sprinter capable of chauffeuring up to 8 passengers in pure comfort and class to and from their resort and nearby airports. The GreatHorse team specified their need for a refined travel environment that would be used as a rent-able transport vehicle for their members, in addition for functioning as a mobile office setup for key personnel. What resulted was a elegant black and beige colored interior with brown wood like flooring and diamond stitching patterns on the upper side walls, ceiling and captain seating. Even more so, this specific Mercedes-Benz Sprinter conversion demonstrates the debut of our newest seating configuration featuring 3 full-sized rearwards facing captain chairs against the front partition wall.
A Bold and Refined Travel Environment
In regards to seating, this build features 8 – 20” captain chairs with a 6-way power base including base features such as self-leveling armrests and 3-point seat belts. Additional seating options for the main 2 forward facing chairs consist of leg extensions, lumbar support, heated seat and vibrating massage elements. Adjacent to the each of these 2 captain seats is a manual retractable wood table in gloss finish, which is ideal for eating a light meal or snack off of along with a preferred cold beverage. Moreover, USB and AC electrical outlets are included to enable passengers to charge their laptops and mobile devices proximal to their seat location. As mentioned above, instead of including a middle console in between the rearwards facing chairs against the partition wall, our client opted for having an additional chair within this space. In the rear, lies an additional 3 captain chairs that are capable of comfortably fitting an additional 2-3 passengers, depending on the size of each person. Below these 3 rear chairs lies a drawer refrigerator that is capable of storing beverages and smaller meals / snacks.
Equipped for Accomplishing Work and Productivity
In terms of a mobile office setup as stated above, the retractable tables adjacent to each captain chair are aimed to be used as a stand for a laptop or for holding important documents on top off. Furthermore, an Apple TV was used due to its unique AirPlay function that permits all Apple devices to cast their associated display onto the TV displays. Such enables for all passengers to be a part of cabin video conferencing and collaboration on Skype, GoToMeeting or FaceTime. In addition, passengers are able to browse the Internet either through their phone or laptop and make it viewable on either or of the 2 TV displays. By the same token, since this Sprinter was aimed to be used by a wide range of people with differing technological backgrounds, our client stated the need of including a full-fledged PC to provide the option of a Windows OS to those who need a more streamlined computing experience. Even more so, the passenger cabin includes an on board WiFi router to enable passengers to have their laptops / mobile devices remain connected even when in transit, and for cabin electronics to use their online functions.
Loaded with a Multitude of Entertainment Options
For entertainment, the front partition wall is composed off of a 49” Samsung UHD TV display featuring 2 front speakers on each side. In regards to audio, throughout the passenger cabin lies an audiophile Dolby 5.1 digital surround sound system made up of the such front speakers, 2 rear speakers and a sub-woofer unit, in order to provide true home theater atmospheric environment. Moreover, in the rear below an overhead storage cabinet lies a 32” TV display set to mirror the front TV display. As mentioned, the cabin is equipped with an Apple TV that serves a streaming device for viewing TV shows, movies and photos. By the same token, a Sony PlayStation 4 console enables passengers to play their favorite video games either by themselves, with other passengers, or in online multiplayer via the PlayStation Network. Rest assured with dedicated cabin WiFi, passengers can maintain a consistent connection to their multiplayer game lobby and will experience minimal lag or frame rate drops when playing. In addition, the PS4 also is packed with streaming apps, as another option for viewing media off of channels such as Netflix, Amazon Prime or Hulu among others. Above the front TV lies a radio that is capable of playing Sirius XM channels or for a Bluetooth device to connect to play music in superb audio quality. A satellite TV or t is included for those who prefer to watch news channels, sports or live TV instead and as another entertainment option.
Striking a Delicate Balance Between Work & Play
All cabin electronics in regards to electronic inputs, lighting, privacy, climate, audio and video controls are accessed via our exclusive HQ iPad controls, as means of streamlining operation of electronic devices to a single movable source for users. Underneath lies one-touch button controls that adds an additional method of operating lighting, privacy and climate controls. To enable communication between the driver and passenger cabins, an intercom system is accessed through a gray telephone, in addition a solid divider and electrostatic glass within the partition are able to retracted downwards if passengers need to speak to the driver or in case of emergencies. As for the driving cabin, front seat recovers are installed for the pilot and co-pilot chair made to match captain seating within the passenger cabin.
Further Modifications in the Rear and Exterior
In regards to the exterior of the Sprinter van, side steps were installed to the passenger cabin entrance and driver / co-pilot doors, in order to allow for entrance and exit from the van with ease. For a more comfortable ride experience for passengers, a VB air suspension was included to contribute to for a less bumpy ride overall. For the aesthetics aspect, a custom front bumper with fiberglass broads and side moldings were installed as well. Even more so, is complimented with a new set of 18” rims and tires, each with a semi black gloss finish to add an additional layer of refinement and appeal. Since the following Mercedes Sprinter was to be used by patrons of a country club, the GreatHorse team emphasized need of having enhanced storage space for personal belongings, and more importantly golfing equipment. As a solution, a rear partition wall installed to create a dedicated rear cargo storage area with wood like flooring and LED lighting installed, as passengers are provided 108 cubic foot area for storing luggage and gear.
Retrospective on the Custom Conversion
For this particular build, the GreatHorse team had wanted a versatile vehicle to be used a wide range of people for different purposes ranging from people moving a large group or serving as a discreet mobile office or executive lounge. This particular Mercedes-Benz Sprinter aims to strike a balance between work and play, providing passengers equal amount of tools to be productive, while at the same time providing a number of options to kill some time and relax.
