Ford Transit: Library Bookmobile
Libraries face various challenges when it comes to extending the reach of their library, enabling resources to be obtainable by everyone, and activating non-users of the library. COVID-19, however, has made these tasks even harder to achieve. That’s why it’s make sense to invest in a mobile library to increase the visibility and reach of your library, especially in isolated rural communities. HQ Custom Design was hired by a client who wanted to create a mobile library so that they could bring resources to users who have difficulty visiting their fixed locations.
About Library Bookmobiles
A bookmobile is the most common type of mobile library. It is typically built around an RV, bus, or in our client’s case, a Ford Transit van. The combination of space and mobility makes this vehicle a popular option for extending our client’s library. With this Ford Transit library bookmobile, they were able to continue offering excellent library services and experiences to existing library users as well as active library non-users.
Seamless Loading and Unloading
This library bookmobile features a load lift that allows employees to safely load and unload heavy good. In addition, the loading lift offers a high level of operating comfort for users, flexibility, and cost efficiency. When you work with HQ Custom Design, you can install loading lifts that come with power units, electrical valves, and two-hand controls with spiral cables. For increased sturdiness, we recommend that you opt for an aluminum platform and pallet stops.
Convenient Customer Service Area
Our client installed a small concession window at the side of the van so that customers and staff members can return and issue books without stepping in or out of the vehicle. The van’s exterior also features an awning to provide temporary shelter from rain or sun.
Reliable Power Source
A generator is fitted inside the bookmobile and acts as a backup source of power in case of emergencies. You can choose to place a generator at the rear of the van to prevent obstructions.
Heating and Cooling Systems
To keep their employees cool during summer and warm during winter, the client installed an A/C system and Webasto heating system.
Thoughtful Amenities
Bookshelves were installed at the side of the van to keep the books organized and ensure that they were within an arm’s reach. A refrigerator and microwave were also available in case mobile librarians needed to prepare quick meals while on the road. Lat but not least, the interior of the van was illuminated by LED and scenic lights for excellent visibility.
